Plantar fasciitis is inflammation of the strong, thick tissue that runs along the bottom of the foot. Plantar fascia connects the toes and the heel bone, creating the foot arch.
Inflammation occurs because of overuse, overstretching or a medical condition. It is often associated with a heel spur (bony growth under the foot, between the heel and arch). Pain is usually worse in the morning, or after intense activity or prolonged sitting or standing.
Symptoms may include:
- Heel pain – dull or sharp
- Heel swelling
- Sole ache or burning sensation
