Caused by repetitive use of the muscles around the elbow, tennis elbow pain is due to tendon damage. Repetitive movements such as computer work, gardening, painting and racquet sports can damage the tendon that connects your forearm muscles to your upper arm bone.

Symptoms may include:

  • Tenderness or soreness on outside of elbow
  • Tenderness or soreness on upper forearm
  • Swelling of area
  • Weakness or stiffness in forearm
  • Inability to turn a door handle or shake hands

Tennis elbow pain reduces if repetitive movements are stopped, however, it may take a few months to 2 years to recover without treatment.
