Migraines affect around 20% of the population, with the majority of suffers females aged 35-45. Generally, it is a moderately intense, pulsating headache or one-sided throbbing. Sensitivity to light, sounds and smell is common. Nausea and vomit may also occur.  Migraines may last for a few hours or days.

Some people feel unwell for a day or two prior to the onset of a migraine. Before or during a migraine, some sufferers experience ‘auras’ which may include:

  • Vision problems
  • Seeing flashing lights
  • Speech problems
  • Pins and needs in arms and legs

For some women, hormones affect migraine frequency and severity, so this changes during adolescence, pregnancy and menopause.
